THE GOAL

Change Our Perceptions

School or work every day? Lets go and learn a different way!

Iain is due to leave the Royal Navy in 2022 after 20 years' Service.  Over coffee one morning, he and Emma decided that they could use that opportunity to do something completely different. Take the boys out of school and go on a Family Gap Year... and why not do it by yacht?

Do something completely different for us, and use the adventure to appreciate that the ideal classroom is the wider world.

Overcome Adversity

Well, as they say, it ain't an adventure if everything goes to plan!

The challenges will come thick and fast.  Over the next 2 years we need to learn how to sail and how to run a sailing vessel.  We also need to figure out how we can even afford to buy one and run one.

And then when we finally do get on the high seas, I am sure adversity will abound!

Grow in Mind and Body

Distant horizons, far-off lands, physical work.

What more could we want?

Hours under sail will allow us time and space to engage our minds- they boys will be doing their own "Boat School".

Adventure and discovery will await as we explore unfamiliar islands and countries. Whilst at anchor we will have natures playground underneath our keel- watersports galore and then plenty of walking to do ashore and physical work to do at sea!

Bond as a Family

Keeping 3 growing boys (and 2 older children!) entertained on board is bound to throw up a few challenges. Teaching ourselves to be comfortable in our own company  and learning to understand each others' need for privacy will no doubt be tricky at first but should ultimately draw us all closer together in mutual dependence.
